The short version
- If your state runs a free network, start there. 22 states list one: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia.
- 11 states run a network that charges a fee: California, Georgia, Louisiana, Montana, Nevada, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin. Prices range from a one-time fee to a yearly subscription. See each state page.
- 14 states have no state-run network: Delaware, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Maryland, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Virginia, Wyoming. There, you need a regional or nationwide service, or your own base.
- State networks are often built for surveyors. They usually need a sign-up and approval, and coverage can stop at the state line.
- Nationwide services charge per device (see published prices), but one login works across state lines.
When each one makes sense

|---|---|

| You cross state lines a lot | A nationwide service (compare them) |
| Your site is far from any station | Your own base, or PPK with free NOAA CORS data |
| You need a contract and phone support | A paid regional network or nationwide service |
